Monsoon's

We have had some great rain storms the last week and looks like more to come.  The Cicadas slowed down during the last three evening rains, which has cooled the air temp thru out the days.  Even on the last day if the third storm we were getting takes all day.  Fish weren't as active but there was a lot of debris in the water as well.  For the first time on Sunday I watched two fish race for our big bug as soon as it hit the water.  There has been a lot of talk and different theory's on how long drys will still take.  My hopes are with this weather slowing them down a few weeks that the Cicadas will get back into the groove when it gets hot again.  Only the next week our so will tell but I here of rain for the weekend again.  I have also thrown nymphing rigs and streamers and the fish are still actively taking fly's.  The river is fishing good just depends on how you like to wet your flys.

Walk-in

I fished the walk in between 2-6pm and we estimated around 30 fish.  My client caught alot of fish in the 8-11 inch range and a few over 15 the biggest was a 16 inch female. This time of year for the walk in high water creates many new Kick outs and riffles which is fun and new.  We fished a suspended double 16 midge and thru them thru every seam and little draws from 12"-4' of water and had action the whole time.  As the evening or morning begins dry drop close to shore is has been working as well.  Small terrestrials or stimulators Orange or yellow has been my choice.

.
Thanks to Bill for landing those hogs. Owner/Guide Mick Lovett landing that beauty on his new Helios 3 Wieght  on a day off.
Thanks and keep your tips high and drys close to shore.

CICADAS

Its been a few since the last up date so I will give you a brief look at whats happening for the month of July.  CICADAS. July 1 was my first day back to rowing the boat down the shores throwing the big bugs!  Cicadas started to chatter early this June which made us crazy because the fish had not turned onto the bite yet.  The bite is not if full swing but, there are several good runs thru the river that are producing healthy and active bows.  The upper river seams to be louder with the buzzing of cicadas so we get a lot more dry action then the dropper.  I have been throwing a black cicada with orange legs being trailed by a number 16 midge color of choice, around 8-14'' down.  The bottom river is quiet and we have been seeing more merging schools of fish in the back eddies.  They are shy but still drop the bug in the middle of them and if one isn't on the dry they will be on the dropper.  I have also heard thru Mick that drifting a long nymphing rig has been producing for this months new water flow with peaks @ 18,000 CFS.  Tell drys our done i don't plan on investigating that.  Here are some pics from the last five days.  I will posting on the Walk In before the week is over so look out for that.  Thanks and come get in on the action.

They're Back

There is a buzz in the canyon.  The cicadas are back.  Each day they have been getting louder and louder.  We have not switched to a full day of cicada fishing but have landed a few throughout the day in certain locations and in certain conditions.

Fishing has remained consistently good with the high water of June.  You just need to add line and weight to the standard nymphing rig.

Here are some pictures from earlier this week.
